Ghosts of Mississippi

Ghosts of Mississippi

Ghosts of Mississippi is not an easy movie to watch — but it is an important one. It tells the true story behind the decades-long fight for justice in the assassination of civil rights leader Medgar Evers, and the quiet courage of those who refused to let truth be buried by time or silence. The film moves gently between past and present, showing how history lingers in people’s hearts, in communities, and even in the courtroom.

What struck me most is that this isn’t just a legal drama — it’s a human story about perseverance, conscience, and the slow, sometimes painful work of healing. It reminds us that justice often takes longer than we wish, and that real change begins when ordinary people choose courage over comfort.

There are moments of heaviness, because the film touches on racism, loss, and the wounds of a divided past. But it also carries a quiet hope — the kind that whispers that truth matters, that voices matter, and that even after many years, light can still break through the shadows.

It’s a movie that invites reflection more than reaction… one that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg, and James Woods all perform incredibly in this film. Even the supporting actors give the film so much depth.

Bobby DeLaughter played by Alec Baldwin: ‘President John F. Kennedy in his landmark civil rights speech to the nation, delivered on the very night Medgar Evers was murdered, said: “We face a moral crisis as a country and as a people. Those who do nothing are inviting shame, as well as violence. Those who act boldly are recognizing right, as well as reality." Today, thirty years later, I'm asking you twelve ladies and gentlemen to act boldly; to hold this defendant accountable and find him guilty... simply because it is right, it is just, and Lord knows, it is time. Is it ever too late to do the right thing?”’
